Nation sees lowest Covid cases in 8 months
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: A total of 13,788 infections have been reported in the country, lowest for the second time this month, taking the country's Covid caseload to 1,05,71,773. A total of 145 new fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, the lowest in around eight months, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
The total number of recoveries have crossed the mark of 1.02 crore. The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 3 lakh. There are 2,08,012 active cases of coronavirus infections in the country which comprises 1.97 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. According to the ICMR, 18,70,93,036 samples have been tested till January 17 with 5,48,168 being tested on Sunday.
As per the Ministry's data, 1,02,11,342 people have recovered so far and currently, there are 2,08,012 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 96.59 percent, while the fatality rate is 1.44 percent.
About 81 percent of the daily new cases are reported from eight states -- Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have logged 66 percent of the total daily deaths.
The most-awaited mass vaccination drive kick-started on January 16, with the approval of two Covid vaccines. As many as 2,24,311 beneficiaries have received doses of Covid vaccines in the last two days.
A total of 447 Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) have been reported in the last two days of massive inoculation drive.
