MP: ‘Akshar Jyoti Abhiyan’ to start from Jan 3

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: ‘Akshar Jyoti Abhiyan’, a campaign to promote literacy in rural areas will be launched first at Eitkhedi village and then across the State. Under the programme, a campaign will be organised in 466 villages of Bhopal district, to be started from January 03 from EItkhedi village. The main objective will be to impart alphabet knowledge to the illiterate. Four phases have been set under the literacy programme, in which information will be given them from alphabet to health and also about their legal rights.

SHG women, volunteers, retd govt officials will teach UNDER the programme, by identifying those in rural area who are illiterate, classes will be conducted in Gram Panchayat headquarters or Government building like Anganwadi, where educated women of self-help groups, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jan Abhiyan Parishad will impart training to the identified illiterate persons by retired government servants or those who wish to serve voluntarily. Under the campaign, a list of such illiterate persons is being prepared in the villages. The elderly are also being included in this. 

4 steps in literacy drive THE literacy programme under the campaign has been set up mainly in four phases, in which the first phase includes alphabet knowledge, name writing, counting and addition and subtraction of general level. The second phase will be about towards financial literacy. In the third phase, information and awareness related to cleanliness / health and nutrition will be ensured and in the fourth phase, information about various legal rights and government schemes and livelihood activities will be provided to the people.
