MP: College admissions get poor response from students

BHOPAL [Maha Media]: Four days after reopening the admission link for under graduation and post graduation programme of colleges, only 100 admissions have been done across State. Though Department of Higher Education (DHE) has started fourth round of college level counselling all of sudden to increase the gross enrollment ratio (GER) of higher education but response from students is very poor.

There are many students unaware of the admission schedule. The department will be continuing admission in colleges for two more days till November 29. On an average two to three students are reaching in colleges for admission. Admission in this round was started on November 24. Students who could not confirm their admission in previous counselling round can confirm their seat till November 29. 

There are around ten lakh seats vacant in colleges. There are around 6.6 lakh admissions held in colleges in previous counselling round and this include 75 per cent admissions in Government colleges. Last year there were total 5.64 lakh admissions in colleges. Besides, there were 7.78 lakh registrations for admission in college during session 2021- 22. Students who are already registered on portal can apply for further participation from 10 am to 12 noon and they do not need to submit any other documents.

Colleges will be releasing merit list of applications every day at 1 pm and concern student can confirm admission on allotted seat by 11 am on next day. Out of 12.60 lakh seats in colleges across state, 6.54 seats have been filled up in various counselling rounds. Higher numbers of admissions have been confirmed for the female students in comparison to male student. Though in UG programme, ratio of boys and girls are 50:50 but in PG programme 61 per cent admissions have been held for girls only.
