MP Athletics Academy players bag two more gold medals
BHOPAL [Maha Media]: The players of Madhya Pradesh Athletics Academy clinched two more gold medals on the last day of the 36th National Junior Athletics Championship held at Guwahati on Wednesday.
The overall position of Madhya Pradesh was sixth in the championship as the state bagged a total of 13 medals including seven gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Academy’s Arjun Vaskale not only made a new meet record by finishing the 1,500 metre run in 3 minutes and 50.38 seconds but also won a gold medal. Earlier, the record was made by athlete Shankar (3 minutes and 53.63 second) in a national event held at Coimbatore in 2016.
In the 1500m race for the girls’ U18 competition, academy's player Bushra Khan Gauri completed the race in 4 minutes 53.47 seconds and gave Madhya Pradesh its second gold medal. Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia have congratulated both the medal winning athletes. While appreciating their efforts, Scindia said that they had brought laurels to the state and that we are proud of them.
Director Sports and Youth Welfare Pawan Jain lauded the excellent performance by the players of Madhya Pradesh Athletics Academy in the National Junior Athletics Competition and said that it is a matter of pride that of 13 medals won at the competition, 7 were bagged by players of Madhya Pradesh Athletics Academy.
