MP: UGC writes to HEIs for nodal centres of SATAT framework
BHOPAL [Maha Media]: University Grants Commission (UGC) wrote higher educational institutes (HEIs) for nodal centres for SATAT framework on Wednesday. The commission said it has released document ‘SATAT-A Framework for Eco-friendly and Sustainable Campus Development’ in November 2019 to guide Higher Education institutions (HEls) to incorporate sustainability in day-to-day campus management.
SATAT also aimed to stimulate HEls to create and disseminate knowledge to achieve India's sustainable development goals. UGC said that it understand that the SATAT framework was just a beginning towards achieving sustainability of HEI campuses in India and a lot needs to be done in terms of preparing detailed sector-wise manuals and other resource materials.
To achieve this, UGC has decided to establish a Nodal Centre for SATAT at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Banaras Hindu University (an Institute of Eminence) for coordinating the implementation of SATAT by HEls. This nodal centre will facilitate cooperation amon8 Indian universities to develop and improve their campus sustainability. For this, the Centre will identify technologies for environmental impact reduction, organise programmes and training sessions, prepare guidebooks and reports, and host a website to showcase and share resources.
The UGC Nodal Centre for SATAT will also develop a transparent, self-reporting framework for Indian institutions of higher learning to measure their sustainability performance. Professor A.S. Raghubanshi, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Banaras Hindu University is nominated as the Coordinator of the UGC Nodal Centre for SATAT.
